Making model-based optimizing control an industrial reality – Results from the MOBOCON project

Duration:

Sunday June 5th 13.30-17:30, lunch from 12:30-13:30.

Organizers:

  • Radoslav Paulen, Sebastian Engell (Process Dynamics and Operations Group, Technische Universität Dortmund, Dortmund, Germany)
  • Andreas Potschka, Hans Georg Bock (Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing, Heidelberg, Germany)

Abstract:

Model-based optimizing control is a versatile innovative technology with an enormous potential to improve the economic performance and the sustainability of processing plants that are affected by uncertainties and disturbances. The goal of the proposed workshop is to introduce the participants into this emerging concept, to present recent developments towards its practical application from the MOBOCON project in a tutorial fashion, and to discuss visions for future research. The one-day workshop will address the following topics:
  • Theoretic foundations and practical realization of model-based optimizing control
  • Innovative concepts (multi-stage nonlinear model predictive control, dual control, guaranteed parameter estimation)

Agenda:

  • Model-based optimization and control: Where do we stand? (Sebastian Engell, TU Dortmund)
  • Numerics of nonlinear model predictive control: Recent advances and future challenges (Leonard Wirsching, IWR Heidelberg)
  • Multi-stage nonlinear model-predictive control (Sergio Lucia, OvGU Magdeburg)
  • Guaranteed parameter estimation and its combination with multi-stage NMPC (Radoslav Paulen, TU Dortmund)
  • Dual control (La Huu Chuong, IWR Heidelberg)
  • Dual control in the framework of multi-stage NMPC (Sankaranarayanan Subramanian and Sakthi Thangavel, TU Dortmund)

Presenters:

  • Sebastian Engell (TU Dortmund)
  • Sergio Lucia (OvGU Magdeburg)
  • Radoslav Paulen (TU Dortmund)
  • Leonard Wirsching (IWR Heidelberg)
  • La Huu Chuong (IWR Heidelberg)
  • Sakthi Thangavel (TU Dortmund)
  • Sankaranarayanan Subramanian (TU Dortmund)
