Abstract

This paper deals with a numerical method for the design of mixed$H_2/H_\infty$ static output feedback controllers. We formulatethe problem as a new type of rank-constrained linear matrixinequalities (LMIs). Then, the LMI optimization problem subject toa rank condition is tackled by the recently developed penaltyfunction method, where a linear penalty function is introduced forthe nonconvex rank constraint. The overall procedure results insolving a series of convex optimization problems. With anincreasing sequence of the penalty parameter, the solution of thepenalized optimization problem moves towards the feasible regionof the original nonconvex problem. Numerical experiments areperformed to illustrate the proposed algorithm.
