Abstract

In this paper a method is proposed to design an optimal controllerthat uses an internal model and an additive noise model to rejectperiodic disturbances. The proposed design method allows for thedesign of a feedback controller that rejects periodic disturbancesin the presence of random noise. An active noise cancellationapplication for an HP DL380 G3 rack server cooling fan ispresented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed designmethod. System identification techniques are used to find a modelof the non-periodic disturbances. The feedback controller wasimplemented in real-time to show the effectiveness of periodicblade pass frequency sound reduction.
