Session 545 - Environmental and Industrial Sensors
This session seeks research and development effort on sensors for environmental monitoring, process control and chemical industry applications. Environmental monitoring plays a major role in assessment and then minimization of the harm that chemical processing does to our environment, and thus to ourselves. Detection and measurement of various chemical species in gas and liquid phases that have a direct impact on the welfare of the environment are relevant. This includes sensors for determinination of short and long term chemical exposure, and levels of contamination of air and water streams. Sensors in process streams as part of industrial safety and environmentally conscious designs are also a focus. Assessment of the cost-benefit and technical challenges of these sensors in the industrial setting will be welcome. Papers on virtual sensors, such as the e-nose, are also invited.
