Exam in 75908 Nonlinear PDEs
There was an oral examination, approx. 45 minutes per candidate. You start by giving a 20 minute minilecture over one of the following topics:
- Entropy conditions for scalar equations
- The Riemann problem for genuinely nonlinear systems
("small" data, i.e., the left and right states close together)
- The Riemann problem for isothermal gas dynamics
- Godunov's method
- Properties of the Lax-Friedrichs scheme
- Properties of the Lax-Wendroff scheme
- Numerical diffusion and dispersion (modified equations)
- Why use total variation diminishing methods?
- Flux-limiter methods
Each candidate was assigned one of the above topics by lottery.
