Setting Up the DSC Sample Press

 

DSC experiments are run with the sample material contained in a pan. A variety of pan configurations are available. Three of these configurations [hermetic, nonhermetic (crimped), and high volume] are sealed using the DSC sample press. The following sections describe how to set up the press to accommodate each of those three pan configurations as well as how to seal samples in those pans. See Selecting a Sample Pan for recommendations on which pan configuration to use for specific sample materials and/or applications.

Gray (Tzero) Press Setup

The gray Tzero press is compatible with hermetic and nonhermetic pans. This press does not require special setup procedures. For information on the Tzero press see the following topic:

Blue Press Setup

The beige press is compatible with all three pan configurations and can be used for preparing samples for either 29XX or Q Series™ DSC's.

NOTE:  When the sample press is initially shipped, it is already configured for nonhermetic pan sealing. Only minor adjustment is required to complete the setup before use. See the appropriate section for the nonhermetic setup of either the beige or blue press.

Beige Press Setup

The blue press is compatible with all three pan configurations and can be used for preparing samples for either 29XX or Q Series™ DSC's.

NOTE:  When the sample press is initially shipped, it is already configured for nonhermetic pan sealing. Only minor adjustment is required to complete the setup before use. See the appropriate section for the nonhermetic setup of either the beige or blue press.
