Pierluigi Salvo Rossi was born in Naples, Italy, on April 26, 1977.

In January 2002 he received the DrEng degree (summa cum laude) in Telecommunications Engineering from University of Naples "Federico II", Naples, Italy, with a thesis on speech prosody modeling, (advisors: Prof. F. Palmieri and Dr. F. Cutugno). In January 2005 he received the PhD in Computer Engineering from University of Naples "Federico II", Naples, Italy, with a thesis on packet channels modeling, (advisors: Prof. G. Iannello, Prof. F. Palmieri and Prof. C. Sansone).

In 2002 he worked as Research Engineer at the CIRASS (Inter-departmental Research Center for Signals Analysis and Synthesis), University of Naples "Federico II", Naples, Italy, (with the team led by Dr. F. Cutugno). In 2003 he worked as Research Engineer at the Department of Information Engineering, Second University of Naples, Aversa (CE), Italy, (with the team led by Prof. F. Palmieri). In 2004 he was Visiting Assistant Research Engineer at the CSPL (Communications and Signal Processing Laboratory), Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, US, (with the team led by Prof. A.P. Petropulu). From 2004 to 2007 he was Adjunct Professor at the Second University of Naples, Aversa (CE), Italy. In 2005 he worked as Postdoc Research Engineer at the Department of Computer Science and Systems, University of Naples "Federico II", Naples, Italy, (with the team led by Prof. G. Iannello). In 2006 he worked as Postdoc Research Engineer at the Department of Information Engineering, Second University of Naples, Aversa (CE), Italy, (with the team led by Prof. F. Palmieri). From 2006 to 2008 he worked as Postdoc Research Engineer at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway, (with the team led by Prof. R.R. Müller). In 2007 and 2008 he was Visiting Postdoc Research Engineer at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology, Lund University, Lund, Sweden, (with the team led by Prof. O. Edfors).

From 2008 to 2014 he was Assistant Professor (tenured in 2011) in Telecommunications at the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering, Second University of Naples, Aversa (CE), Italy. In 2009, 2010 and 2013 he was Guest Researcher at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. In 2013 he was Guest Researcher at the WISENET (Excellence Center for Wireless Sensor Networks), Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. From 2014 to 2016 he was Associate Professor in Signal Processing at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. From 2016 to 2017 he was Full Professor in Signal Processing at the Department of Electronic Systems, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. From 2017 to 2019 he was Principal Engineer with the Department of Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning in Kongsberg Digital AS, Trondheim, Norway. Since 2019 he is Full Professor in Statistical Machine Learning for Signal Processing (Equinor-sponsored professorship) at the Department of Electronic Systems, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. From 2019 to 2021 he was the Director of the strategic area Internet of Things, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. Since 2021 he is (part-time) Research Scientist at the Department of Gas Technology, SINTEF Energy Research, Trondheim, Norway. Since 2021 he is Deputy Director (for Research) at the Department of Electronic Systems, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. Since 2022 he is Deputy Manager of the Centre for Green Shift in the Built Environment, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.

Since 2011 he is IEEE Senior Member. In 2012 he was a Guest Editor for Physical Communication, Elsevier. From 2012 to 2016 he served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Communications Letters. From 2016 to 2019 he served as a Senior Editor for the IEEE Communications Letters. From 2015 to 2020 he served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications. From 2019 to 2021 he served as an Executive Editor for the IEEE Communications Letters. From 2021 to 2022 he served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Sensors Journal. From 2019 to 2023 he served as an Area Editor for the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society. Since 2019 he serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks. Since 2022 he serves as a Topical Editor for the IEEE Sensors Journal.

His research interests fall within the areas of communication theory, data fusion, machine learning, and signal processing.
