Dear committe members,

Please find attached a perliminary version of my thesis. The thesis consists of the following chapters:

Chapter 1- Introduction
Chapter 2- A brief overview of heat-integrated distillation systems and thesis problem statement
Chapter 3- Shortcut methods for analysis of ternary multi-effect distillation columns
Chapter 4- Minimum vapour flowrate disgrams for multi-effect heat-integrated prefractionator columns
Chapter 5- Selecting appropriate control variables for a heat-integrated distillation system with prefractionator
Chapter 6- Multi-effect distillation applied to an industrial case study
Chapter 7- Conlcuding remarks
Appendix A- Modelling and simulations
Appendix B- Implementation of optimal operation for heat-integrated distillation columns
Appendix C- Minimum vapour flow of different distillation arrangements

I would like to point out that Chapter 6 is in a draft form and that there may be some changes here. Also, a table of contents will be added later.

Thank you very much for your time and for agreeing to be in the committe.

With kind regards,

Hilde Engelien
