Title: A low-dimensional dynamic model of severe slugging for control design and analysis

Presented at Multiphase'03, San Remo, Italy, 11-13 of June 2003

Abstract:
We have developed a simplified dynamic model of multiphase flow in the type of systems that severe slugging occurs.
Inside the open loop slug regime, the model covers both the stable limit cycle known as slug flow, and even more importantly,
the unstable but preferred stationary flow regime, making it suitable for controller design.

We have fitted the model to data both from a simulation (OLGA) test case and from medium-scale experiments.
We have in both cases achieved good agreement with the data, and controllers designed based on our model
are able to stabilize the flow for the systems modeled.
