Most multivarible control systems are subject to a large number of
constraints. In this seminar, we will study a few different types of
constraints and their impact on control performance.
Firstly, we consider decentralized control, where each control input
is computed based on its own set of output measurements. It is shown
that the achievable bandwidth with a decentralized controller can be
related to the existence of right half plane zeros in certain
subssystems of the open loop transfer matrix.
Secondly, we consider a new approach to dynamic programming for
controller design in presence of input constraints. The analysis is
based on systematic computation of piecewise quadratic Lyapunov
functions and leads to controllers that are piecewise linear.
