Abstract

The paper illustrates the design of a power system voltagecontrol scheme based on the model reference adaptive approach. Firstly, apower system approximated linear model is build-up. Then, by imposing adesired reference model, the controller parameters are obtained bysolving the model-following problem which ensures that the controlledvoltage tracks the voltage reference. In presence of unknown operatingconditions changes, the regulator parameters are varied according to anadjustment laws designed on the basis of the gradient rule. The task ofthe adaptation mechanism is to counteract the effects of such changes.Referring to a Static VAR System controllable compensatordevice the adopted model-reference adaptive control scheme has beendesigned and its performance analyzed by accurate numerical timesimulation studies. in the case of load variations and line opening.
