ELSEVIER IFAC PUBLICATIONS

One of IFAC's key activities is the endorsement of publications covering the range of its activities. To cope with the complex publication demands of such a diverse range of subjects IFAC and Elsevier have evolved a long-standing agreement (the "one-publisher scheme"), which provides for a unique working relationship between the Federation and the Publisher. Co-operation between IFAC and Elsevier is close and results in a range of publications to suit the needs of the control community. The main website for Publications activities is www.elsevier.com/locate/ifac. The site has just been re-launched with a new range of services.

The IFAC publications portfolio falls into two categories: journals and Proceedings.

IFAC Journals

Articles in IFAC Journals have undergone rigorous peer review, and are of a very high standard. Elsevier has invested heavily in being able to deliver these articles on-line through Science Direct (www.sciencedirect.com).

Automatica
(http://www.elsevier.com/locate/automatica)

Automatica is a broad control journal, containing a mixture of theory and applications. It is the longest-established IFAC journal and is one of the leading control engineering journals with a high impact factor (1.28 in 2000). The journal has its own web submission and tracking system for submitted papers (http://www.autsubmit.com/). Automatica publishes regular papers, brief papers, technical communiqués, survey papers, book reviews.

Control Engineering Practice
(http://www.elsevier.com/locate/conengprac)

CEP is an applications journal covering a broad range of technologies and industries. The journal publishes directly submitted papers as well as special sections based on IFAC conferences and other interesting topics. All papers are expected to show practical results or to demonstrate application to genuine industrial problems. Electronic submission has been introduced from July 2002 (http://www.elsubmit.com/esubmit/conengprac).

Annual Reviews in Control
(http://www.elsevier.com/locate/arcontrol)

ARC is a small review journal publishing a selection of survey-like papers from IFAC meetings as well as directly commissioned material. The journal has recently been expanded to two issues a year and is starting to publish specially commissioned review material covering important topics in control engineering.

Journal of Process Control
(http://www.elsevier.com/locate/jprocont)

JPC covers chemical process control and related technologies. The journal is a recent addition to IFAC’s family. It is a well-respected and high-impact (0.805 in 2000) niche title with a deserved reputation for excellence. JPC publishes regular papers, survey papers, correspondence and book reviews.

Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence
(http://www.elsevier.com/locate/engappai)

EAAI covers intelligent real-time automation and wider aspects of computer control, including algorithms and architectures, as well as AI techniques. This is another new addition to IFAC’s family, and has an excellent reputation in its field. Electronic submission has been introduced from the start of 2002 (http://www. elsubmit.com/esubmit/eaai).

Some other journals are designated affiliated journals, by which they have priority access to IFAC meeting papers at selected events. Among the affiliated titles are Mechatronics, Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, and Computers and Electronics in Agriculture.

IFAC Proceedings

There are 20–30 IFAC Proceedings titles per year on a wide variety of specialist topics. Significant regular topics include those in the list below. In the list, links are provided to the most recent Proceedings in the series.

Advanced Control of Chemical Processes (ADCHEM)
Advances in Control Education (ACE)
Artificial Intelligence in Real Time Control (AIRTC)

In addition, the triennial World Congress proceedings (approx. 20 volumes), published once every three years, covers the whole of IFAC’s technical scope.

All proceedings papers are electronically produced and are stored in a database for abstracting and indexing. Full details, including a complete list of all Proceedings published to date, may be found at http://www.elsevier.com/locate/ifac.

Elsevier is committed to providing resources for all IFAC conference authors, in the form of instructions and other relevant material. Thus the website is also the first port of call for any IFAC conference author or editor, or anyone needing information about IFAC’s publication formats and requirements.
