Professor James M. Douglas is the winner of the 2006 ASEE / CACHE Award for Excellence in Computing in Chemical Engineering Education. His contributions to process invention methods were to the groundwork for rational computer-aided process design. By identifying the hierarchy of decisions that are required, he made the computer a useful aid to developing a process design, not just sizing and refining it.
