354e Reaction Optimization in a Microreactor Using Real-Time Analysis

Brian Marquardt, Center for Process Analytical Chemistry (CPAC) in the Chemistry Division, University of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195

This presentation will demonstrate the use of on-line analysis tools for the real-time characterization of chemical reactions performed in microreactors. Example chemistry is evaluated and used to demonstrate the potential of the concept to characterize chemical reactions. In addition, a series of potential pitfalls that can be encountered when working with microreaction systems is described with approaches that can be employed to eliminate the impact on the measured chemistry. Finally, the presentation will describe the potential and limitations of the utilization of microreactors for the real-time high throughput determination of reaction kinetics.
