This paper focuses on the acquisition of process parameters utilizing small (rotor sizes of 50mm)lab scale centrifugal extractor/separators. This data is then used to scale up to full size production units with rotors ranging from 250mm to 500mm.

Real world applications in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and flavors industries will be discussed.

The anticipated scale up parameters will be compared to the actual full process parameters achieved by the centrifugal extractor/separators.

The paper will show that with a properly designed lab scale test utilizing 50mm extractor/separators the technology can readily and efficiently be scaled up to full process size units for single or multi-stage installations.
