122b Doped Oxygen Carriers for Inherent Co2 Capture Using Chemical Looping Combustion

Chemical looping combustion (CLC) potentially offers high efficiency inherent CO2 capture, but is limited by the lack of available oxygen carriers with sufficient mechanical strength and reactivity. In this context, doping of nickel and iron oxides with a variety of elements has been investigated, to improve both characteristics. The oxygen carriers were produced using solution combustion synthesis, where the effects of synthesis parameters such as fuel type and fuel/oxidizer ratio were examined. Next, the resulting oxides were characterized using XRD, BET, and SEM, and the oxidation/reduction behavior was determined using TGA. The experimental results thus obtained indicate that solution combustion synthesized materials are attractive oxygen carriers for CLC applications.
