Jacobsen (NPC chairman) Jørgen Knudsen Gunnar Berggren Jan Richard Sagli Invited to attend meeting: Prof. Tore Hägglund, Lund In the absence of the chairman, the Working group meeting was chaired by Sigurd Skogestad 1. The minutes of the previous meeting on 26 Jan. 2006 were approved 2. The 14th NPC Workshop is running smoothly. The number of delegates is more than 100 which is a new record. To make time for two panel discussions, some of the sessions are run with two parallels (the first time ever) The working group thanks Sirkka-Liisa Jamsa-Jounela for her efforts. 3. The next NPC workshop (15th) will be in Telemark, Norway in January 2009 (possibly 29-30 Jan. 2009). Organizer: Professor Bernt Lie, Telemark University College. The 16th workshop will be in Sweden in August 2010. The location and organizer is to be decided by the end of 2007 through email communication in the WG. The Swedish delegates are asked to make a proposal such that a decision can be made by the end of 2007. 4. Nordic Process Control Award: Confidential (the candidate has accepted to come and receive the award) 5. New Chairman of Working Group (WG). As a new policy, it was decided that the organizer of the present Workshop is the WG chair, and the organizer of the next is the WG co-chair. Practical implementation: - Workshop location and organizer are decided 3 years ahead. - The workshop organizer becomes WG co-chair 0.5 year later (2.5 years before his/her workshop) and WG chair 2 years later (1 year before his/her workshop). This new policy will start from 2009. The transition will be as follows: - Elling W. Jacobsen continues as WG chair until the end of 2007. - Sirkka-Liisa Jamsa-Jounela becomes WG chair from Jan. 2008 until August 2009 - The organizer of the 2010 workshop in Sweden becomes WG co-chair in Jan. 2008 and WG chair in August 2009 Comment: This does not mean that the organizer/WG chair needs to do everything alone. Please make use of the past chairs! 6. Changes in membership. Leaving: - Dr. Leif Hammarström from Neste is retiring from the working group. He is a founding member of the WG and his thanked for his efforts. - Gunnar Berggren has changed his job within Borealis and is retiring from the working group. He is thanked for his efforts for the WG. - Sigurd Skogestad will retire from the WG (from Jan. 2008). New - Dr. Hans Aalto, Neste is elected as a new WG member (from Aug. 2007) - Professor Bernt Lie, Telemark, Norway is elected as a new WG member (from Aug. 2007) - Bjørn Glemmestad (Borealis, Norway) is elected as a new WG member (from Aug. 2007) Other: Jan Richard Sagli from Statoil is sorry that he has not been able to be as active in the WG as he had wanted to. He will consider his membership and possible suggest a replacement as soon as the Statoil-Hydro merger is finalized. 7. Status from WG members: Nothing 8. Nordic cooperation (Sirkka-Liisa Jamsa-Jounela) - A very useful list of PSE courses at some of the Nordic universities has been prepared. Master level (Erasmus, company support?) 2. PhD level (common PhD courses?) 3. Research (Nordic center of excellence in PSE? Nordic Five Tech universities. NTNU.
