Diploma Thesis Suggestion: Anti Slug Control. Design of advanced controllers Using control to stabilize multiphase flow in pipeline-riser systems has received a lot of attention in the last few years. We have at the department of chemical engineering developed novel models and studied the behaviour of such system. In particular, we have looked into the possibility of stabilizing the desired now-slug flow regime using topside measurements only. The diploma thesis will be concerned with the following subjects - Optimal (H-infinity) control. For unstable systems it is essential to avoid saturation. The work will be in designing controllers that conform to key performance criteria and at the same time satisfies bounds on the inputs caused by the demand for avoiding saturation. - (Robust) Controllers that deal with uncertainty - Linear controllers that takes in to account the effect of key nonlinear terms in the model The candidates should have a solid background in robust control ( i.e. Morten Hovd's course in robust control) Supervisor: Prof. Sigurd Skogestad Co-Supervisors: PhD students Espen Storkaas and Heidi Sivertsen
