Norwegian Small Satellite Forum. Back to Roger Birkeland

This is a short overview of the different editions and the developments of the "Norsk småsatellittforum" (Norwegian Small Satellite Forum) over the years since 2015. As the industry and small satellite eco-system have developed, the forum has too, both in form, context and name. The first editions were oriented towards the surveillance of maritime areas, which has been -- and still is -- a focus area for the Norwegian industry. Later editions have had a broader scope, and from 2023, the forum has been hosted by the Gemini-center for Small Satellites (a joint collaboration between NTNU, UiO and SINTEF). For 2024, there was a call-for-abstracts in addition to some invited talks, in contrast to the first editions where the program was set by the program committee.

2024, 5th of February - Norske mikrosatellitter, at Skøyen, Oslo

This year, the forum has the title "Norske mikrosatellitter" (Norwegian micro-satellites). For 2024, there was a call-for-abstracts in addition to some invited talks, in contrast to the first editions where the program was set by the program committee. The seminar was held the 5th of Februar, at Skøyen, Oslo. It is arranged by the Geminicenter for small satellites (NTNU, UiO, Sintef) with Space Norway as host and co-sponsor. Over 110 registered participants.

2015, 9th of March - Norsk småsatellittforum, in Trondheim.

The first edition of this seminar was hosted by NTNU in Trondheim. This was a collaboration with both the Norwegian Space Agency and Kongsberg Seatex. The purpose was to create a joint arena for sharing ideas and progress related to the growing activities of the Norwegian small satellite ecosystem. This included both academia, research and the industry. NTNU had a growing interest in satellites both from students and faculty, and as an academic institution could have an integral role as a hub for Norwegian satellites. About 40 participants.
