A Three-Dimensional Numerical Model for Calculation of Hydraulic Conditions for Fish Habitat
A Three-Dimensional Numerical Model for Calculation of Hydraulic Conditions for Fish Habitat
Abstract
A three-dimensional numerical model for calculation of water flow in rivers and channels is presented.
The model is used for hydraulic modeling of habitat for fish. The numerical model solves the
Navier-Stokes equations with the k-e model on a non-orthogonal grid. The model includes a
pre-processor made for rivers and channels. The model presents graphical plots of the variables.
The user can specify colors and patterns as a function of the value of the parameters. Thereby
the model can be used for determining the habitat for fish. Input data and practical use of the
model are described. Three examples are also presented, where the model is used in a man made
reservoir, a fish farm tank, and in a natural river.
