Alexander Dikiy was born 1966 in Lviv, Ukraine. After graduating from high school in 1983 he was admitted to the Moscow State University. There he obtained a Masters degree with honours in chemistry and a PhD in biochemistry.

Subsequently he moved to Florence, Italy, where he worked in the group of Prof. Ivano Bertini on development of NMR for structural characterisation of metalloprotein. For the following 14 years he remained in Italy working in Florence and at the University of Bologna as Post-doctoral fellow and professor lecturer. In 2001, he defended his habilitation thesis in biochemistry. For further career development he worked from 2003 to 2004 at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln as research assistant professor.

Since 2005 he is employed by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway) as an associate professor. In 2012 he was given full professorship at NTNU. Besides leading his own research group, teaching graduate and PhD students he is also the director of NTNU's NMR centre. From 2007 to 2010 he was elected as the president of the Norwegian Society for Magnetic Resonance.

His fields of scientific interest are structural proteomics, redox biology and molecular basis of diseases.
