CAPE Forum 1999

Dear participants,

as mentioned in our previous announcement, the next CAPE-Forum meeting will be organised at University of Liège.

We will start on Friday, January 15 by a technical session from 14.00 to 17.00 hrs. After the technical session, we will have a get-together dinner. The next day (Saturday, January 16),

we will have two technical sessions and we will conclude the forum meeting with an open discussion session. The technical sessions on January 16 will have the following times : 09.00 to 12.00 Technical session 2; 13.00 to 16.00 Technical session 3; 16.00 to 17.00 Open Discussion and close of forum meeting. Here is the proposed meeting plan.

Like last year, we would like to arrange the forum such that we can discuss, understand and learn a little bit more on some specific topics that a majority of the participants feel a forum meeting would be useful. For a number of years, we have been talking about computer aided modelling and computer aided integration. With respect to CAPE, it would be useful to have a forum on these topics to see where we are and what are the present trends and/or future directions.

Suggested Topics for Technical Session

Technical Session 1 : Integration of tools - integration of processes

Various aspects related to "Integration" could be presented and discussed. What is integration ? What are the issues with respect to site scale integration, or to flexibility and operability ? What are the constraints or synergistic effect when dealing e.g. with energy and water integration.? Is there a difference between "Process Integration" and "Tools Integration" ? If yes, what ? Do both have equal importance in industry and research ? What has been achieved in this area ? Any other issues not listed above.

Technical Session 2 : Modelling and applications, including optimisation

Various aspects related to "Modelling" could be presented and discussed. For example, what is modelling ? What is a modelling language ? Types of Modelling applications ? Is it important ? If yes, why ? Does it have interest in industry ? How to obtain model parameters ? How accurate should a model be ? How accurate can the solution be expected in the presence of parameter uncertainty ? Any other issue not listed above.

Technical session 3 : Open

Since it is a forum, I would like to leave it open for suggestions from participants. If there are any topic or topics that participants would like to discuss, then here is the chance to have them discussed. Participants may also use this session to inform us about their latest break-through (if they would like to share their results with us). Industrial participants may propose some problems of general interest. Challenge problems may also be proposed.

Submission and selection policy

Participants are requested to send me their proposal to present (just a title) as soon as possible and no later than Jan 6. Proposals will be included on a first cum first serve basis ! All proposals will be given a 20-25 min slot (including time for discussion). If there are too many proposals, presentation time may be reduced.

Please send your proposal to,
