Computationally Demanding Process Synthesis

We are concerned with carrying out process synthesis activities which are
computationally demanding. We are currently exploring the design of
flexible solvent recovery processes. Difficulties include the
combinatorially explosive size of the search space and the difficulty of
analyzing alternatives. We shall discuss the use of collocation models, the
development of new numerical methods to increase model convergence, and the
use of Asynchronous teams of agents (A-teams) as a way to carry out the
optimization.
