LETTER WRITTEN TO AWARD RECIPIENTS (DRAFT) Dear...., I am writing to you as chairman of the Nordic Working Group on Process Control and I refer to our phone conversation earlier today. We are extremely happy and honored that you will accept our invitation to come to ............... and receive the xth Nordic Process Control Award. The award is given by the Nordic Working Group of Process Control. I cite from our bylaws: The Working Group or a subcommittee appointed by the Working Group awards the "Nordic Process Control Award" to persons who have a made a lasting and significant contribution to the field of process control. The award is presented at the NPC Workshop and the receiver is expected to give a lecture. The previous recipients are 1. Howard H. Rosenbrock (1995) 2. Karl Johan Astrom (1997) 3. F. Greg Shinskey (1998) 3. Jens G. Balchen (2000) 4......++ As I mentioned on the phone we will be happy to cover travel expenses and accomodation. We have set aside up to about $2000 to cover such expenses, so if you were able to get some reasonable ticket, then we would be happy to cover the expenses also for your wife. I will mail you separately some information about the previous meeting which was held .... . You can expect about about 50 people to be present, with more than 2/3 from academia (mostly graduate students) and the rest from industry. You are free to choose your topic for your award lecture, but something which gives us (and especially the students) some perspective is always welcome. Most of the previous ward recepiemnts have attempted to draw some lines from their earlier careers and up to today. Dr./Professor............ is in charge of the local arrangements for our next Workshop, and he will be in touch with you later. Best regards, ...... (chairman NPC)
