PROJECT WORK.

This describes how the project work has been used in an introductory graduate course in Multivariable feedback control using frequency-domain methods.

Two weeks before the project starts:
Read through project desiciption in Appendix B.
Start thinking about project topic. There are four alternatives:
1. Suggest your own topic -- preferably related to research you are doing or plan to do (but note that modelling and problem definition part of the project probably will take a large effort in this case)
2. Pick a project from the book, for example

   1. Aero-engine case study 
       (check results from book and make alternative design)
   2. Helicopter case study 
       (check results from book and make alternative design)
   3. FCC-reactor, see  3x3 model in Exercise 6.16 (p. 251)
   4. Distillation column (see section 12.4.4, page 496):
     a. 2x2 model with LV configuration 
     b. 4x4 model 
     c. 2x2 model with DV configuration 
     d. 2x2 model with DB configuration

3. Pick a project from another source (e.g. one of the IFAC benchmark problems of Davison (1990), from one of the MATLAB toolboxes, etc.)
4. Let the instructor pick one for you
One week before the project starts:
Extra lecture where we discuss the project. The proposed project needs to be approved by the instructor. You must therefore hand in the preliminary statement (1-3 pages) before this lecture (see point 1 on page 531).
