Numerical Modelling Of Water Quality In Lake Mjøsa, Norway, During The Flood Of 1995

Abstract

A three-dimensional numerical model was used to calculate circulation, temperature and turbidity in Lake Mjøsa during the flood of 1995. The numerical model solved the Navier-Stokes equations using a modified k-e turbulence model. The Coriolis force was included together with terms for density stratification, as the lake had a temperature stratification. The convection-diffusion equation for temperature and turbidity was solved. The results were compared with measurements taken during the flood, and reasonable agreement was found.
